Restore the wall. Resolve the cause.

Loose stones, open joints and a damaged cap need different repairs. Learn what to record, which questions to ask and which approvals to check before work starts.

What does the repair include?

Describe the affected length and material before choosing a method. A surface patch, stone rebuild and structural repair have different scopes. Ask what is being retained and how its condition was established.

Why does water behind the wall matter?

Show the contractor downspouts, paved areas and the slope above the shore. A repair that blocks an outlet or traps runoff may change the loads behind the wall. Ask for a drainage detail and a way to maintain it.

How should the repair meet the adjoining wall?

Locate each end of the work. Ask how the repair connects to sound material and what happens at the neighboring property line, steps and dock. These small interfaces are easy to leave out of a short quote.

What is the Lake Martin approval step?

Describe the full work to Alabama Power before scheduling. Applicable shoreline construction and repairs need written permission. Include neighborhood approval where required, then confirm local and environmental review for the parcel.

What should you bring to the assessment?

  • The lake property address and parcel number.
  • Dated photos and previous permit drawings.
  • An outline of access restrictions and nearby structures.
  • Your intended use of the shoreline and any deadline.

Prepare for an assessment or build a scope-based budget.

Does land disturbance need ADEM review?

Lake Martin has a special stormwater rule. Non-exempt disturbance can require coverage even below one acre. Describe the entire footprint, including access and stockpiles, and request a determination if the exemption is unclear. Prepare an ADEM review request.
