Where does runoff arrive?
Trace the visible route from roof, driveway, paths and uphill lawn. Photograph flowing water during rain from a safe position. Mark any outlet that ends near a wall joint or neighboring parcel.
Why is a washed-out lawn more than a cosmetic issue?
Lost soil can leave unsupported paving or steps. Keep loads off suspect areas and ask the assessor to find the path of loss. Adding fill without addressing that path is not a complete scope.
Should you drill new weep holes?
Have the wall and retained ground assessed first. An improvised hole can create a soil-loss path or damage reinforcement. Ask the designer to specify drainage, filtering and maintenance for the actual wall system.
What is the Lake Martin approval step?
Describe the full work to Alabama Power before scheduling. Applicable shoreline construction and repairs need written permission. Include neighborhood approval where required, then confirm local and environmental review for the parcel.

What should you bring to the assessment?
- The lake property address and parcel number.
- Dated photos and previous permit drawings.
- An outline of access restrictions and nearby structures.
- Your intended use of the shoreline and any deadline.
Does land disturbance need ADEM review?
Lake Martin has a special stormwater rule. Non-exempt disturbance can require coverage even below one acre. Describe the entire footprint, including access and stockpiles, and request a determination if the exemption is unclear. Prepare an ADEM review request.
